A three-player action game set in an open postapocalyptic world and referring to George Miller’s cult film series. We take on the title character of Max, who, after losing his legendary vehicle, sets out in dreaded danger on the vast, wiped-out war of the Wasteland.
Mad Max, a third-person action game embedded in an open postapocalyptic world and reminiscent of George Miller’s iconic film series, was announced at E3 2013, and its full version debuted on the world’s markets on September 1, 2015. The studio dedicated to personal computers responds to Avalanche Studios, a sandbox company. This team has the famous series Just Cause, about the adventures of agent Rico Rodriguez. The title was commissioned by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which in his catalog includes such projects as Batman: Arkham Knight, Mortal Kombat X, Middle-earth: Mordor Shadow or Dying Light.
Mad Max PC version does not differ much from the one available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Practically the only item not available on other devices is the ability to adjust the quality of the graphics. All other things (storyline, gameplay, available modes, etc.) are the same on every target device. Mad Max also has no frame rate per second.
Mad Max’s story does not directly relate to any of the previous films, but tells us a whole new story, using only the “iconic” elements of the series. In the game, we take on the title character of Max, who, after losing his legendary V8 Interceptor, travels through a vast, postapocalized, wilderness. The purpose of his journey is to construct a new machine that matches the performance of its legendary predecessor. However, it is only admission to many adventures, waiting for the main hero. Max hopes to find the legendary land of Plains of Silence, where he will finally be able to experience the desired peace and tranquility, but by the way he will not take revenge on his captors.
The game allows you to move freely around the world of the Desolation, which is swarming with all sorts of hostile characters. In the exploration, we have a new car called the Magnum Opus, which, as we progress in the adventure, can be upgraded and armed with ever newer gadgets. Thanks to this, we improve both its performance and combat effectiveness, which is especially important because it is this vehicle that is our primary weapon. The creators of Mad Max have put a lot of emphasis on the element of the car walk, and more than 50 different vehicles from the film series were reproduced.
In situations where we can not count on support from our car, Max is forced to deal with enemies in a more traditional way. The creators used a combat system based on the counter, reminiscent of the mechanics known from the Batman or Sleeping Dogs series. The enemies can also be dealt with in a more traditional way – using the characteristic scapegoat of the main hero, although the shooting aspect was not as elaborate in the production as hand-to-hand combat.
When we explore further areas, we will find a variety of camps, towers and observation points, where we can, among other things, acquire scrap metal – allowing us to purchase new upgrades – as well as valuable food regenerating health or fuel feeding Maksa. In addition to the main storyline, there are also a variety of side missions and additional missions that encourage exploration and sacrifice much more time than required by the story.
